I have six hours to finish this ten pager. Listening to this song and chugging coffee to make it through. Kind of happy with how it is looking right now. An excerpt:
At the simple linguistic level, the two acts differ and set two contrasting tones—one of suspended action and one of forward moving action. And as we have studied in African Literature, for one thing to exist we need its opposite. Humans tend to define based on difference. Just in these two scenes we see Soyinka establishing definition through the point/counter-point. However, this can be done by almost all genres. How does the play form extend this point/counter-point form to give definition beyond just the text? We must look to the mise-en-scène, or the visual themes, alongside stage direction and music within the play. These aspects in relationship with the text send a powerful message that inhabits the audience’s senses and thoughts. It provokes thought and understanding simultaneously through multiple avenues of sight, sound, and thought.
